5 Reasons To Get Fit For The Outdoors

Fitness classes offer more than just fitness. I knew going to fitness classes here in Pine Falls would be a winner. And no surprise.

My next door neighbour and I walk along the tree lined street to my old high school gym at 0620 am three times a week. A built in friend interaction. Recently a new friend meets us at the corner on our way to class.

To up-tempo music, our seasoned instructor makes exercise fun and engaging. For me, the fun of getting together sort of transcends the experience of working out.

Three times a week at 0630 am, 15 women, who all know each other meet up.

We are all going through similar stresses. We smile, and joke our way through gruelling classes.

Of course we do get these  5 perks of group exercise.

We keep each other motivated.

We learn the proper form to prevent injury.

We get fit.

We relieve stress.

We get a social fix.

Walking Back Home

After a solid hour of working out, my neighbours and I walk home. They prepare for work and I get to work on my blog.

Walking With Forest Loving Friends

Then late morning or early afternoon, I go outside. Usually I walk with one of my two forest loving friends. One goes to the fitness class a little later in the morning, and the other has been walking in the forest all her life.

And this is where we really relax, where our heart rates slow, our breathing deepens, and we know we are in another kind of fitness heaven.

Get Fit For Your Outdoor Activities

So go to fitness classes to get your 5 perks including socialization, the correct exercise form, injury prevention, stress relief, and getting fit.

After that, you will be in perfect shape for any kind of green exercise outside in the tree aerosols. Fitness class fun prepares you for outdoor fun.  The bonuses compound one another.

Final Thoughts

Workout and getting outside partners, whether they’re your friend or a spouse, serve as a physical and mental cue to stick with it and have fun!

So hang on tight to those outdoor and fitness friends. They are helping you to stay fit and to get healthier.

At the top of my gear list is my Columbia hat. It has a draw string to prevent it from blowing off my head. The hat is light and has breathing mesh, so no hot head. It bunches up in my tiny backpack and keeps it’s shape. I have several.

  1. I also joke that I don’t like to exercise but when I go I get addicted. The adrenaline and the relaxation it provides is invaluable. Since I don’t have as much time as I used to we try to get in a walk whenever we can.

  2. I admire your tenacity! I like to go on hikes and walks– but at 06:00 hours, I am still sawing wood (figure of speech, promise!) and will be for two more hours. 🙂

  3. This is a great post, it’s wonderful you have a group like that. I would definitely walk outside more in an area like that, so beautiful

  4. I love spending time outdoors! It definitely helps to be somewhat in shape to go outside. 🙂

  5. It would be great to have friends to help keep you accountable for exercise. I should do that. I just make excuses, though. I would like that walk home, though. It looks so serene!

  6. I love that you have found a group like this! As much as I like my alone time, getting outdoors with friends is so rewarding.

  7. Great motivation! I find it easier to work out with someone. My BF and I just started riding our bikes to the gym. Not a whole lot of trees unfortunately but it’s always nice to be outside.

  8. Great post Verla. I wonder if this connected to Anita’s fitness blog or if she has a comment or Input.
    Thanks for sharing.

  9. Thank You for the inspiration :). I agree, exercising is very important as it allows you to hike and walk further on the hiking trails! The further you walk or hike the more beautiful it is.

  10. I should try something like that. I’m an introvert and generally hate group classes. Instead I go straight to the woods or the beach. But since that’s not always possible it would be nice to have another outlet.
